The mission of the Oncology division of the CHU de Québec - Université Laval Research Center is to bring clarity and resolution to complex scientific problems related to cancer, for the benefit of patients and society. Meeting this challenge is made possible thanks to our diverse and multidisciplinary research expertise that span the entire spectrum of health sciences. This includes: Basic research in cellular and molecular biology and medical physics, clinical research, as well as physical and psychosocial health care and public health interventions. The research programs pursued within the division are grouped into three themes:

1-Biology, etiology and prevention

  • Understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer, from tumor initiation to metastasis
  • Identify the causes of cancer, being genetic, environmental or lifestyle-related
  • Improve the health and well-being of the population through preventative measures, reduction in exposure to risk factors, and reinforcement of protective habits and factors to lower cancer risks

2- Screening, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment

  • Screen and treat cancer using a personalized approach
  • Develop innovative diagnostic and prognostic approaches, such as the use of biomarkers or imaging methods
  • Optimize targeting of tumors in external and internal radiation therapy

3- Survival, quality of life and health services

  • Optimize the psychosocial functioning and quality of life of patients and their loved ones throughout the course of patient care, including better symptom management and palliative care
  • Improve the delivery of health care in terms of accessibility, quality and efficiency
