Prof. Steve Bilodeau, a researcher in epigenomics and bioinformatics, as well as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval, has been a cornerstone of cancer research since his arrival in 2012. His team actively engages in multiple multidisciplinary projects, tackling the complex mechanisms governing gene expression, in both normal and pathological contexts, such as cancer. The primary scientific mission of his team is to delve into the core transcriptional mechanisms underlying the development and progression of hormone-dependent cancers, such as those of the prostate and breast. These innovative projects benefit from a dynamic environment where experimental research intersects with computational biology. Thanks to diversified funding from several granting agencies such as CIHR and CRSNG, Prof. Bilodeau’s research program pursues several objectives:

  • Explore how cells interpret and respond to signals from their environment in cancer development and progression to optimize current treatments.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians to identify predictive molecular biomarkers for cancer development, diagnosis, and progression.
  • Develop new multidisciplinary approaches to accelerate the integration of knowledge and the translation of discoveries into clinical applications.

This innovative research program, focused on scientific excellence and led by Prof. Steve Bilodeau’s team, aims to incorporate diversity of perspectives, experiences, and ideas to address the complex challenges of cancer research. Thus, the research environment is welcoming and inclusive, allowing all voices to be heard, respected, and valued. Moreover, the team places great importance on training and mentoring at all levels, contributing to shaping the next generation of oncology researchers.

In summary, Prof. Steve Bilodeau’s team’s research program is fully committed to pushing the boundaries of cancer understanding. Through a multidisciplinary approach, all efforts are made to translate discoveries into tangible benefits for patients with hormone-dependent cancers. With a team dedicated to scientific excellence and innovation, Pr Bilodeau and his team are determined to advance the fight against cancer, offering hope for a future where this disease is better understood and treated.
