Luc Bergeron

Luc Bergeron obtained his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Université Laval (UL) in 1986 and completed his residency in hospital pharmacy at L’Hôtel-Dieu de Quebec hospital the following year. He obtained a master’s degree in hospital pharmacy from the UL Faculty of Pharmacy in 2003. He is a pharmacist at the CHUL hospital since 1987 and was a clinical professor at the UL Faculty of Pharmacy from 1994 to 2020. Since June 2020, he has been an assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Université Laval.

Mr. Bergeron is a recognized expert in the field of antibiotic therapy in Quebec and Canada. He has been very active in the field of infectious diseases for more than 35 years, both in clinical practice, teaching, and research. Mr. Bergeron was the antimicrobial stewardship coordinator for the CHU de Quebec-Université Laval from 2014 to 2022. He has given numerous conferences on the optimal use of antimicrobials and has participated as an expert on several provincial and national committees, as well as with industry. The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists recognized his expertise and influence by awarding him the title of Fellow in 2013.

Mr. Bergeron has also been very active in teaching for more than 30 years, notably within the Faculties of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, as well as at the Graduate School of International Studies at UL. His main research interests are the optimal use and safety of antimicrobials in adults and children. Mr. Bergeron has supervised 26 hospital pharmacy residency projects since 1993 and obtained several grants from the FRQ-S and the RQRM. He has presented the results of several of his projects at national and international conferences (PPC, ICAAC, IDWeek, ECCMID) and has to his credit several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
