Étienne Audet-Walsh specializes in the study of the cellular functions of sex hormones in hormone-sensitive cancers, such as prostate and breast cancers. Using innovative preclinical models of organoids, transgenic mice, and clinical collaborations, he seeks to understand the functions of hormones in these cancers. By combining different genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic approaches, his group has notably highlighted the importance of sex hormones in the reprogramming of tumour metabolism, a new key oncogenic function of these hormones. Ultimately, we aim to develop new anti-metabolic therapies to complement hormonal therapies and thus help patients with hormone-sensitive cancers. Indeed, the laboratory’s recent work, cited among Québec Science’s Top 10 Scientific Discoveries of 2024, demonstrates the importance of estrogen in prostate cancer and opens the door to new clinical studies for patients suffering from it.

More recently, projects on glioblastoma and medulloblastoma have been launched, opening the horizon for new projects within the research group.

Anyone interested in joining a dynamic and multidisciplinary team is invited to contact Prof. Audet-Walsh, whether for an undergraduate internship, graduate studies, or a postdoctoral fellowship, by emailing etienne.audet-walsh@crchudequebec.ulaval.ca.
