Dr. Laurin is an epidemiologist and professor in population health at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Laval University. She has a background in nutrition and holds a doctorate in epidemiology. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroepidemiology at the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD, USA). Her research program focuses on the epidemiology of mild and major neurocognitive disorders (Alzheimer’s disease) as well as aging. Specifically, it aims to identify biomarkers upstream of neurocognitive disorders (and even within other health outcomes) with the goal of preventing or delaying their onset.

Dr. Laurin’s research work is primarily conducted at the CHU de Québec-Laval University Research Center. She is a regular researcher at the Quebec Center of Excellence on Aging (CEVQ) of the Population Health and Optimal Health Practices Axis of the CRCHU de Québec. She also works as a researcher at the VITAM Research Center on Sustainable Health and at the Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF) of Laval University.

Dr. Laurin’s current projects focus on the prevention of chronic diseases through the reduction of psychosocial stressors at work and the improvement of lifestyle habits. She is particularly interested in the links between diet quality, medication, and neurocognitive disorders. She also explores the link between inflammation from exosome cargoes, psychosocial stressors at work, and cognitive performance in individuals. These studies are made possible through the use of data and blood banks from several large cohort studies, aimed at occupational or nutritional purposes, or representative of the Canadian population. Dr. Laurin is involved in the design of a dietary frequency questionnaire to measure the consumption of plant-based protein foods in elderly individuals in Quebec. Finally, she collaborates on several research projects focusing on pharmacotherapy and clinical pharmacoepidemiology.

Dr. Laurin is a co-researcher and co-responsible for the epidemiological component of the Nutrition, Exercise, and Lifestyle in Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention team of the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNV). She also actively participated in the development of nutrition chapters for the CAN-THUMBS UP study platform.
