Dr. Richard Bélanger began his medical training at the University of Montreal in 2003. After completing his residency in pediatrics in Quebec City and specializing in adolescent medicine at CHU Sainte-Justine, he worked with the Adolescent Health Research Group in Lausanne, Switzerland. Trained in motivational interviewing, he started his clinical practice at the Mother-Child Centre Soleil of the CHU de Québec in 2010.

As a clinician-researcher, former FRQS fellow, and associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Laval University, Dr. Bélanger’s main areas of research focus on psychoactive substance use among youth, particularly cannabis, indigenous populations in Northern Quebec, and chronic diseases, notably Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The primary objective of Dr. Bélanger’s projects is to prevent adverse health trajectories among youth, relying on participatory and interdisciplinary scientific approaches.
