After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in sociology, Prof. Gilbert-Ouimet completed a master’s and a doctorate in epidemiology at Laval University. Subsequently, she undertook two postdoctoral fellowships: the first in occupational epidemiology at the Institute for Work & Health in Toronto, and the second in health economics at the University of Quebec in Montreal. Throughout her academic journey, Prof. Gilbert-Ouimet also fulfilled the role of a mother to two boys, one of whom has a chronic illness. Her various roles have taught me the benefits of compassion, letting go, and achieving a healthy balance between work and personal life.

Currently, she is an associate professor at the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Quebec in Rimouski (Lévis campus), a regular researcher in the Population Health and Optimal Health Practices program at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Center, and the holder of the Canada Research Chair on Sex and Gender in Occupational Health.

The mission of her research Chair is to enhance strategies for preventing cardiovascular diseases, mental health problems, and type II diabetes by reducing psychosocial risks in the workplace while considering the sex and gender of individuals. Prof. Gilbert-Ouimet research primarily focuses on the associations between these occupational risks and the development of various chronic health problems, as well as the effectiveness of organizational interventions aimed at reducing them. Given that the prevention and reduction of psychosocial risks in the workplace are now legal obligations in Quebec, her team is also working on the development and evaluation of action support tools for workplaces.

Workplace health is a fundamental component of individual well-being and organizational performance. - Dr. Maria Neira, Director of the Department of Public Health, Environment, and Social Determinants of Health at WHO.
