Dominique Giroux is an occupational therapist and full professor at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at Laval University. She is a regular researcher at the CHU de Québec Research Center, VITAM – Center for Sustainable Health Research, and the Quebec Center of Excellence on Aging (CEVQ). Her research focuses primarily on care and interventions for elderly individuals with loss of autonomy and their caregivers. She favors clinical projects in collaboration with clinical teams. More specifically, for several years, she has been interested in assessing risks related to home support, assessing decision-making capacity, and the ability to take care of oneself and manage one’s affairs in the context of evaluating the need to open a representation measure.

Her work has led to the development of the Aptitude Assessment Tool, which is now available to support evaluation by health and social services professionals. She also conducts research on risk assessment and management as well as support for caregivers, especially in the presence of behavioral and psychological symptoms expressed by individuals with neurocognitive disorders. Participatory research projects of co-design type involving all stakeholders concerned with the issues under consideration are the research designs she favors.
