Dr. Anne Marie Pinard completed her medical training and residency in anesthesiology at the Université de Montréal in 2002. She is currently head of the pain clinic at CHU de Québec-Université Laval. She is also a full professor at Université Laval and holds a master’s in educational technology.

Since she arrived at Université Laval, she has actively contributed to teaching and scientific life at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval and the Department of Anesthesiology. As such, she has held three positions as a teaching representative, head of CANMeds development and member of the admission committee. She also directs the chronic pain fellowship program in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Université Laval and has developed complementary training in chronic pain offered to family physicians.

In addition, she holds the Chaire de Leadership en Enseignement (CLE) sur la douleur chronique, which aims to improve the management of chronic pain by healthcare professionals through training modules. The CLE also aims to provide people living with chronic pain with validated resources (Gerermadouleur.ca) and a self-management tool (Agir pour moi). Students’ and residents’ projects generally include a pedagogical component by helping to create training modules for healthcare professionals.

She was responsible for the knowledge transfer initiative of the Quebec Pain Research Network, and is very involved at both provincial and Canadian levels in various chronic pain initiatives with the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS), for example. Since 2018, she has also joined CIRRIS to catalyze the development of her scientific career. In recent years, she has been a key player in organizing seven conferences and symposia. Overall, she divides her time between the clinic, her academic work and her research activities.

Her research interests focus mainly on knowledge mobilization, self-management and interprofessional work in chronic pain. She collaborates with many researchers at different Quebec universities on different themes, the latest of which concerns an intervention using music and hypnosis for patients living with chronic pain. She contributes significantly to health promotion through her involvement in two major projects with the MSSS as part of the implementation of the action plan for a chronic pain continuum 2021-2026 and the national strategy for the prevention of psychoactive substance overdoses 2022-2025. Their objectives are to optimize the management of patients living with chronic pain by setting up a specialized team in primary care centers and by creating an interdisciplinary mentoring network between first- and third-line professionals.
