Import and export

The quality of research work with laboratory animals is crucial at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Center and it can be seriously compromised by the introduction of pathogens. The Import/Export Service is responsible for guiding research teams throughout the entire process. 

The importation process involves several steps. The researcher is responsible for initiating the process by completing the “Demande d’acquisition de rongeurs de source non approuvée” form and sending it to the email address dsv@vrr.ulaval.ca. 

No imported animal will be allowed to enter a breeding room for mating because derivation is mandatory to breed an imported colony. Therefore, to import a mouse strain with the aim of breeding it, it is essential to submit a derivation request alongside the importation request. To complete the derivation request form, consult the derivation and cryopreservation service at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Center. 

*When importing biological material (e.g., cell lines) whether from ATCC or not, the cells must be tested to ensure they are free of pathogens.

Several regulations govern the export of laboratory animals or biological samples. The export process involves several steps. The  Import/Export Service handles all stages of this process (CFIA permit, Veterinary Certificate, transportation, etc.).

The researcher is responsible for initiating the process by completing the “Demande de transfert d’animaux vers un autre site” form and sending it to the email address dsv@vrr.ulaval.ca.
