Prof. Soulet holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s degree from the University of Lyon I, France. He completed his Ph.D. in Physiology/Endocrinology at Laval University and postdoctoral studies at Lund University, Sweden.

Denis Soulet is a full professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Laval University, and a regular researcher in the Neuroscience program at the CHU de Québec Research Centre. His research interests are mainly in the field of neuroscience and, more specifically, on the microbiota-gut-brain axis in Parkinson’s disease.

The goal of his research is to better understand the immune and endocrine response in Parkinson’s disease. The experiments conducted by Prof. Soulet and his collaborators consist of characterizing the mechanisms of neuroprotection at the level of the central and peripheral nervous system and then modulating them using various pharmacological approaches in order to limit neuronal death. The impact of his work is very important for the development of new therapeutic strategies.

Techniques used: cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology, quantitative PCR, immunoblotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, confocal and multiphoton microscopy, stereology, high-throughput image analysis, lentiviral vectors, intracranial surgery in mice, etc.
