Le Dr Simon Berthelot est spécialiste et chercheur en médecine d’urgence au CHUL (hôpital pédiatrique académique) du CHU de Québec – Université Laval depuis 2008. Il a été précédemment médecin chef du service d’urgence de l’hôpital de Shawinigan, de 2002 à 2004, et médecin conseil à la Direction nationale des urgences du Ministère de la santé et des services sociaux du Québec, de 2008 à 2013. Il détient une Maîtrise (M. Sc.) en santé communautaire obtenue de l’Université de Calgary en 2014, avec spécialisation en recherche sur l’organisation des soins de santé. Il est professeur-clinicien adjoint sous octroi à la Faculté d médecine de l’Université Laval depuis 2015, et chercheur-boursier clinicien Junior 1 au Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), depuis 2016.

Par ses travaux de recherche, il évalue la performance, le coût et la valeur des soins, particulièrement à l’urgence et en première ligne; il intervient également sur le phénomène du sur-diagnostic et du sur-traitement dans les services de santé. Il est aussi co-responsable d’un programme de recherche et de soutien en évaluation économique et en économie de la santé pour les chercheurs, décideurs, et professionnels de la santé, programme financé par l’Unité de soutien SRAP (Stratégie en recherche axée sur les patients) du Québec.

Le Dr Berthelot a reçu en 2013 le Grant-Innes Research Award remis par l’Association canadienne des médecins d’urgence au meilleur résumé de recherche en médecine d’urgence au Canada. Il s’est aussi vu remettre en 2014 le Chancellor’s Graduate Medal, remis à l’étudiant ayant rédigé la meilleure thèse de Maîtrise à l’Université de Calgary.
