Originally from St-Marc-des-Carrières in the Portneuf region, Dr. Richard Bélanger began his medical training at the University of Montreal in 2003. Following a residency in Pediatrics in Quebec City and a specialized training in Adolescent Medicine at the CHU Ste-Justine, he worked in the Adolescent Health Research Group in Lausanne, Switzerland. Trained in motivational interviewing, he began his clinical practice at the Centre mère-enfant Soleil du CHU de Québec in 2010.

Clinical research, ex-fellow of the FRQS and Assistant Professor at Laval University in the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Bélanger’s main areas of research interest are the use of psychoactive substances in young people, particularly cannabis, northern Aboriginal populations of Quebec, as well as chronic diseases, especially Attention Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity (ADHD).

The impact of Dr. Bélanger’s projects is primarily aimed at preventing adverse health trajectories in young people, by focusing on participatory and intersectoral scientific approaches.
