BIOGRAPHY
Professor in the Ophthalmology Division of the Department of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology-Maxillofacial Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University. Member of the Medical Education Center of the Vice-Dean’s Office for Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development. Ophthalmologist specialized in cornea and anterior segment, practicing at the Ophthalmology Centre of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval. Medical Director of the Banque d’yeux du Centre universitaire d’ophtalmologie.
Graduate of medicine and ophthalmology from Laval University. Certification in ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Province of Quebec. Fellowships in cornea and anterior segment at McGill University and at Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA. Recipient of an R.S.McLaughlin Foundation fellowship award.
Research interests and projects
Clinical Research Interests: Corneal transplantation. Clinical trials with topical and systemic antivirals. Lacrimal insufficiency. Contamination of contact lens storage cases. Diagnosis and treatment of corneal infections. Quality analysis of donor corneal grafts. Corneal transplant registry.
Recent or current research projects:
- Comparison of the sensitivity between flocked swab and traditional fiber swab when culturing Herpes simplex in epithelial keratitis. Principal investigator, in collaboration with Étienne Laurier and Alexis Danylo (residents). Grant from the Eye Disease Foundation. (2011-2014)
- Endothelial count assessment of donors’ corneas: alizarin red staining vs. specular microscopy at the time of donor qualification. Co-researcher, in collaboration with Étienne Vachon-Joannette, (resident); Patrick Carrier, Jeanne D’Arc Uwamaliya, Marie Eve Légaré and Stéphanie Proulx. Grant from the Eye Disease Foundation. (2015-2018)
- Project to create a corneal transplants registry at the Ophthalmology Centre of the CHU of Quebec-Laval University. Principal investigator, in collaboration with the Ophthalmology Centre’s Eye Bank and Émilie Bergeron (resident). (2017-2020)
