Geneviève Roch is a nurse and professor at Université Laval’s Faculty of Nursing. She is also a researcher affiliated with the research centre of CHU de Québec-Université Laval; with VITAM – Centre de recherche en santé durable of CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale; and with the research centre of CISSS – Chaudière-Appalaches. Her work focuses on the optimization of health practices and services, through integrated mobilization and knowledge translation strategies in order to support the best clinical and administrative decisions and the implementation of innovative approaches. Her expertise lies at the intersection of different disciplinary approaches that she applies mainly to care and service trajectories in the field of perinatal, childhood, family, and pediatric hematology-oncology.
Geneviève was the recipient of a Governor General’s Gold Medal in 2009. The quality and relevance of her work have since been recognized by various awards, including the Tribute to Social Innovation (2015) from Université Laval, and in the form of research grants contributing to the quality of care and the expertise of caregivers for the benefit of family and child health.
Geneviève has developed a web-based digital tool for the operationalization of calculations based on an innovative method of analysis and policy intervention that is accessible to all (O’Neill, Roch, & Boyer, 2011). The method is used in various training programs and courses at all university levels, as well as in continuing education for community workers. This approach is also applied in research during workshops aimed at promoting the scaling up of practices or innovations in health and social services.
With her team, Geneviève has implemented a collaborative research program on the organization of services in the perinatal field, which includes two studies presenting integrated knowledge translation strategies and a transfer/enhancement project featuring digital training and a public website. Associated projects have been carried out in conjunction with community and social economy organizations that offer postnatal home support services called Relevailles, parent-partners, and various decision-makers, managers, and health professionals. These projects led to her reception of the Tribute to Social Innovation Award (2015) from Université Laval.
Geneviève is in charge of a collaborative research program on the impacts of digital education and the optimization of services to families in collaboration with non-profit organizations. She has received federal and provincial funding to evaluate the impacts of group and online prenatal education services on perinatal health, as well as on service networks with community partners. The data resulting from this work has also led to various developments on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis on perinatal health and services.
Last but not least, Geneviève Roch is the designated co-leader of a major program on best practices in pediatric oncology for and with families. This program aims to develop and evaluate an organizational innovation to support expertise through modules that include playful and engaging digital training.
