Caroline Sirois is a professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at Laval University. She is a researcher at the CHU de Québec Research Center, the Center of Excellence on Aging in Quebec, the Center for Research in Primary Care and Services at Laval University, and a research associate at the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ). Since July 2016, she holds the Chair of Research on Aging at Laval University. As a pharmacist with a master’s degree in hospital pharmacy, Ms. Sirois practiced in community pharmacies and hospital settings before completing a master’s degree and a doctorate in pharmacoepidemiology at Laval University. She then completed postdoctoral training in epidemiology at McGill University.
Her research interests focus on the appropriate use of drugs in older adults, polypharmacy, and deprescribing. Her interests include the study of potentially inappropriate drugs for older individuals and the conceptualization of appropriate polypharmacy. By using multicriteria analysis methods, she tries to determine which drug combinations generate more benefits than adverse effects on the health and quality of life of patients. She is also interested in deprescribing, both from the perspective of older adults, and clinicians.
Ms. Sirois works closely with the INSPQ on the development of polypharmacy surveillance for people aged 65 and over in Quebec. This project involves the development of polypharmacy indicators on which she collaborates with several international teams.
