Subsequently, she completed a postdoctoral training in Fetal Medicine (Fetal Medicine Foundation Fellowship, London, UK, 2014-2016) including advanced ultrasound training and more than 12 months of research under the supervision of Professor Kypros Nicolaides. In addition to her medical training, she completed a master’s degree in epidemiology. Since November 2016, Dr. Demers has been Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology and Reproduction at Laval University, where she holds a Clinical Investigator position.

Understanding placental development

There is a real interest in the topic of early placental development. Using various tools, including 3D ultrasound, it is possible to study placental growth and vascularization in women at risk for preeclampsia and growth restriction in the fetus that may be different from the general population, and to explain what causes these conditions.

Study of the 1st trimester fetal anatomy

With the technological improvement of ultrasound devices of recent years, it is now possible to study fetal anatomy from the first trimester of pregnancy. Several major abnormalities can be identified early in pregnancy, and allow better counseling for parents.
