Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University.

Director of the Interdisciplinary Memory Clinic, CHU of Quebec-Laval Univeristy, l’Enfant-Jésus Hospital.

In the early 70s, Dr. Bouchard founded the Quebec Interdisciplinary Memory Clinic (CIME), the oldest memory clinic in Canada. Over the years, he has assembled a team of nine specialist physicians, representing cognitive neurology, geriatrics, neuropsychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. After studying medicine and obtaining a master’s degree in neurobiology from Laval University, Dr. Bouchard completed a training in Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at Boston City Hospital at Harvard University under the supervision of Prof. Norman Geschwind, followed by a fellowship at the hospital of La Salpêtrière de Paris under the supervision of Professor François Lhermitte. Dr. Bouchard is recognized by his peers as a pioneer in the field of cognitive neurology. The Quebec network of memory clinics and the organizing committee of the first Quebec congress on Alzheimer’s disease created in 2012 the “Rémi W Bouchard” award, presented at each conference for the next generation of scientists. He is also recognized nationally for his outstanding contribution to the understanding and treatment of patients with cognitive impairment, by receiving the “Irma M. Parhad Award” in 2014. At the request of the international journal Lancet Neurology, which publishes career profiles, colleagues at the Memory Clinic summarized his career profile, which was published in May 2017. He was recently honored by the Canadian Medical Association in Montreal. He co-founded the Alzheimer Society of Quebec 32 years ago, and is currently a member of its board of executives. He is also a member of the C5R, the Canadian Society of Neurology, and of the FRSQ research centre of the CHU of Quebec at l’Enfant-Jésus Hospital. He is a member of the executive of the Quebec congress on Alzheimer’s disease. Being responsible for a large number of conferences to the general public, he has always been very involved at the socio-community and humanitarian levels.

For more than 45 years, Dr. Bouchard has been actively involved in teaching cognitive neurology (over 415 courses or conferences). In research, he has been particularly interested in the clinical profile, early diagnosis, and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, mainly Alzheimer’s disease. He has participated in numerous therapeutic clinical trials in collaboration with the international scientific community. He is the author or co-author of over 125 scientific or abstract publications, as well as of several book chapters in the cognitive or cerebrovascular field. He works closely with other CIME members on a variety of clinical, epidemiological, therapeutic, genetic and imaging research projects in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
