Laurence Guillaumie is a professor at the Laval University Nursing School. She is trained in health education and patient counseling. She holds a Master’s degree in Education Science, a Ph.D. in Education Science and Community Health, and a Post-Doctorate position in Health Pedagogy.

Ms. Guillaumie is also a regular researcher at the CHU de Québec Research Center, the Axis Population Health and Optimal Health Practices, and the Québec Network on Nursing Intervention Research (RRISIQ).

She is particularly interested in patient education and counseling, humanizing care, and improving patients’ empowerment. She mobilizes theories and concepts derived from cognitive-behavioral approaches (such as motivational interviewing), psychoanalytic approaches (such as Lacanian psychoanalysis) and holistic health approaches, including mindfulness.

Her research focuses on three topics: (1) understanding the experiences and needs of patients and their families; (2) understanding the practices and the logic of action of both nurses and care teams; and (3) developing and evaluating health promotion and self-management programs provided by healthcare professionals.
