Dr. Iwona Rudkowska is an Assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Laval University, and a researcher at the Endocrinology and Nephrology Unit of CHU de Québec Research Center. She completed her university studies in nutrition at McGill University before pursuing postdoctoral training in nutritional genomics at Laval University. Her unique training as a dietitian and researcher, has led her to become a respected young scientist in nutrigenomics, fatty acids, and metabolic health.
Using genomics for the development of personalized nutrition interventions for the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is an important public health issue. Several nutritional approaches have already been put in place for the prevention and management of diabetes; nevertheless, a large interindividual variability was observed in response to these interventions. It is therefore essential to understand the genetic architecture of the disease in order to be able to predict the response of an individual to a nutritional therapy. Using the profiles generated by experimental methods such as genetics, transcriptomics and metabolomics, the primary goal of her research is to identify molecular markers of an individual at risk of developing diabetes. This knowledge will allow the development of nutritional interventions adapted to each individual, and thus more effective in the prevention and the management of diabetes.
