Senior investigator at the CHU de Québec-Laval University Research Center, Dr. Côté is also full professor at the department of Réadaptation/Rehabiliatiton and has been a member of the School of medicine’s executive committee as associate dean for the rehabilitation programs since 2010.

For over 20 years, he has been conducting research work focussing on the pathophysiology of musculoskeletal trauma and injuries. More specifically, he is interested in elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the cascades behind the coordinated actions leading to the degeneration and regeneration of muscle tissue following acute trauma or injury, mainly using animal and cellular models.

His most recent work aims at understanding the importance of the inflammatory reaction for the healing and regenerative processes in skeletal muscle; one goal is to identify the specific roles assumed by the various cells implicated during an innate inflammatory reaction like the one triggered in injured skeletal muscle; specifically, one objective is to determine how mast cells can modulate such a process and the prostaglandins involved. Lastly, we also conduct work whose goal is to determine how pharmacological anti-inflammatory strategies can interfere with degenerative and regenerative processes.
