Graduated in Family Medicine from Laval University, Édith Guilbert started her career in 1979 as a clinician in the multidisciplinary family planning clinic of the CHU de Québec, CHUL, where she worked until 2017. She obtained her master’s degree in epidemiology from the same University in 1992, and continued her postgraduate studies in Educational Science at Laval University and in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, U.S.A. From 1987 to 2001, she was Chief of staff of the Family Planning Clinic at Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval and has coordinated the expert committee on family planning for Institut national de santé publique du Québec since 2005.
Édith Guilbert was very active in clinical research from 1985 to 2002 and in public health research since 1997. She is part of several scholarly societies such as the Society of Family Planning the European Society for Contraception. She is the co-author of several Canadian guidelines on contraception and abortion. Her research interests focus on contraception, abortion, and reproductive health in general. She is co-investigator or knowledge user for many research projects on the introduction of medical abortions using Mifepristone in Canada, in collaboration with the University of British Columbia.
